Destinations

i. The Gopakapattana shore - a submerged Medival port of the 11th century.  Presently the remains at Gopakapattana get submerge during high tide and they are covered with sediment indicating the high sedimentation in the region. This may be an interesting site for understanding recent changes in sea level, shoreline and sedimentation in the region

ii. Old Goa Archaeological Museum & World Heritage monument - The archaeological museum is housed in the convent portion of the church of St. Francis of Assisi. Antiquities displayed in 8 galleries include the objects from the prehistoric and early historic period to the late mediaeval period. The UNESCO World Heritage monumments in Old Goa exerted great influence in the 16th-18th centuries on the development of architecture, sculpture, and painting by spreading forms of Manueline, Mannerist and Baroque art throughout the countries of Asia where Catholic missions were established.

iii. Fort Aguada - A 17th century Fort of Portuguese is built on a hillock but a bastion extending up to the shoreline which preserve some remains of sea level changes and also erosional features.  The Aguada cliff section also provides sites for sedimentary structures and meta-greywackes.

This is a 1-day field trip.
